Lucas Bergvall & Sweden exit World Cup round of 32
Swedish international Lucas Bergvall has become the latest Spurs player to be knocked out of the 2026 World Cup.
Lucas faced a formidable France side who ran rampant throughout, defeating Sweden 3-0. A brace from Kylian Mbappe and a goal from Bradley Barcola ensured France's progression into the Round of 16 where they face Paraguay on Saturday.
The 20-year-old featured for 65 minutes before being substituted. During that time, Bergvall completed 23/27 passes and had a 100% success rate for accurate long balls and dribbles. Despite his best efforts, it wasn't enough to halt a dominant French side.
Bergvall has been at the centre of transfer talk so far this tournament, with the Swede reportedly wanting to face a new challenge and informing Tottenham of his desire to leave, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. Multiple reports suggest that it would take upwards of £45 million for Spurs to sanction a transfer.
Despite the player wanting a move, it remains unclear as to whether Roberto de Zerbi wants the player sold, with reports suggesting that De Zerbi has spoken to Bergvall and his camp stressing that he is of importance in his future plans.
